SPIE Photonics West is the world’s largest photonics and technology conference. Every year thousands of companies, engineers and innovators come from around the world to learn what next-gen tech will push the industry forward.
A large number of complex and future-focused technologies and applications will be demonstrated and highlighted at SPIE Photonics West.
Focus At SPIE
Deep Learning Optics
Aydogan Ozcan from California NanoSystems Institute and the University of California will be presenting on deep learning methods on optical microscopy and microscopic image reconstruction at SPIE Photonics West. This technology may stand to unlock new possibilities in image enhancement. In addition, new transformations in different microscopic imaging, driven solely by image data.
Oszcan is also said to present a physical mechanism to perform machine learning by demonstrating Diffractive Deep Neural Network architecture. This architecture can all-optically implement various functions following the deep learning-based design of passive layers that work collectively.
Dr. Ozcan is Professor at UCLA and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He also leads the bio and nano-photonics lab at UCLA, and is Associate Director of the California NanoSystems Institute.
Commercializing Technologies Workshop
A three-session workshop on innovation and management in photonics will also be available titled Innovation and Management in Photonics: Accelerating Commercialization of Technologies or IMPACT.
The session is designed to help early stage and start-up companies based in the USA to leverage networking opportunities available at SPIE Photonics West. Resources and connections can be a huge push forward for owners and entrepreneurs, significantly driving their business ideas forward.
The goal of IMPACT is to add real-world business insights and connections to technical expertise and instruct company leaders what it takes to bring a concept to the marketplace. Modeled after the National Science Foundation I-Corps Program, IMPACT shares customer discovery techniques key in pushing new tech to commercialization.
Innovators in this workshop will receive the opportunity to give and obtain feedback on their own discoveries from other photonics experts and investors in the industry.
Quantum Tech
Thierry Robin, Partner and founder of Tematys will be presenting as well. Tematys offers market data, segmentation and analysis; technical evaluation for decision making and technology sourcing & assessment and product definition to companies and public organizations in the fields of Optics, Photonics, Sensors and Imaging.
Robin is presenting on developments in the field of quantum technology. These developments will likely drive dramatic advances in sensing, imaging, computing and communications, creating new opportunities in photonics.
Corporations and even governing bodies across the globe are already aligning various funding channels and programs to maintain a strong position in the quantum technologies fields. Many quantum technology start-ups are also emerging, which is exciting for the industry.
Dr. Robin has more than 20 years’ experience in both technical innovation and marketing in the photonics industry and graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris (France). He also has a master’s degree from Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and a PhD from the Physics Center of Ecole Polytechnique.
