What is the future of optics in healthcare?
Simon Schwinger: Optics continues to be an enabling technology for Healthcare products and solutions. On the component level we’ll continue to see interesting technology advancements like meta optics and multi-material solutions in 3D micro printing that will help to further miniaturize the devices. Vendors need to provide answers for the macro trends like Digital Health and Consumerization.
How will healthcare manufacturing processes change relating to the metaverse?
The Metaverse requires specific hardware to be a true immersive experience for the user, not only the consumer but also the professional user. First, solutions like MagicLeap are successfully used in manufacturing environments already today. There is more to be expected also from new market entrants.
What should medical device engineers adapt presently to prepare for future healthcare changes?
A key need in the medical device industry is to shorten the product development and launch cycles significantly. Depending on the device complexity, I see 24 – 36 months, which is way faster than in the past. One promising way is modular designs, as demonstrated by the automotive industry.
However, this market need is contradicted by the already existing and further growing regulatory requirements to be met.
