Emerging Technologies

Current OEM miniaturization trends and technological advancements in many market sectors depend on the ability to mold parts and features smaller than previously thought possible. Because traditional injection molding technologies can’t fulfill micron tolerances and microscopic features, micro molding for emerging technologies is a rapidly growing niche.

Micro Molding For Emerging Tech

Micro molding for emerging technologies requires more than just a large investment in machining technology and state-of-the-art metrology equipment to ensure demanding part characteristics are met. Oftentimes, molding to meet micron tolerances requires thermoplastics and resins to take forms not often thought possible.

Our experience combined with our in-house technology is often able to outperform the specifications set by our own resin suppliers. This is why it’s wise for engineers to get our DFM engineers involved as early as possible. A component that your team may believe isn’t possible may already be proven within our walls.

Materials and Examples

Accumold has made significant investments in quality systems and the equipment necessary to meet the demands inherent in micro molding for emerging technologies, but the molding platform by itself isn’t sufficient. Even if we were to give our technology away (which we would never do) it would be like giving a Steinway Piano away without the world-class pianist to play it. The tool build, material processing and machine all need to work in perfect concert to achieve such precision micro parts.

Micro Mold Material Examples

Micro molding for emerging technologies often requires high-temperature next-gen materials such as Nylons and Polyetherimide. Also, optical-grade materials like, PC, COC, PMMAs. Custom blended materials filled for attenuation, heat dissipation, ESD, conductivity, are also important.

New materials are being developed every day, and our in-house micro-molding machines are highly adaptable to run a very broad range of micro mold material materials.

Component Examples

Lenses for AR applications Components for wearable devices such as CGM. Drug delivery devices, including wearable pumps. Micro-sensor devices. Next-gen Datacom connectors.

Why Accumold?
