My work has enabled people like you to see, hear, live, and communicate more effectively, and it started at Accumold over a decade ago. As a production operator, I monitored machinery used to mold resin to exact specifications. I produced micro-size components for today’s leading tech companies, bringing their impossible goals into the realm of possibility.
This experience was my introduction to microscopes, fixtures, work orders, customer prints, control plans, and clean room environments. Terminology such as flash, non-fill, and splay became part of my vocabulary.
Not all manufacturing companies are created equal. Success comes to those willing to work for it. CEO Roger Hargens and his team of innovative manufacturing specialists at Accumold have been doing this for some time now. The team has invested the necessary time and resources in a state-of-the-art facility, and top-level talent.
This team’s intentional decisions have driven employee satisfaction and retention, as evidenced by the tenure of numerous team members, many of whom have advanced internally. It’s our competitive advantage and has enabled us to adapt to everyday trends and fluctuations in the economy. “We employ the best, so we expect the best” is a phrase often quoted by Hargens. It’s not a feel-good line, the team actively seeks out talent. Talent like me.
When a Material Handler position became available, it was my opening to delve deeper into the technical side of material preparation, reconciliation, and inventory maintenance of resins, custom inserts, and packaging. These responsibilities empowered me to be more hands on and interactive, providing a better understanding of day-to-day operations. As the business experienced continued growth, more emphasis towards supply chain management became a priority and I once again, set my sights higher.
When a Bill of Material Specialist position became available, I applied and eventually accepted the opportunity to again advance further. This became a career-defining moment where my hard work, production knowledge, persistence, and drive to succeed paid off.
As a member of the Production Planning group, today my attention is devoted to front-of-the-house transactions, setup, maintenance, and analysis, for new development and existing projects. Bills of material (BOM), scheduling and prospective forecasting, and document and inventory control are a few of the everyday responsibilities.
Collaboration goes into every decision made, directly impacting vital areas including production, engineering, sales and quoting, automation, purchasing, shipping, and receiving. Factors on a BOM, i.e., shot weight, cycle time, and attached components, determine how much material must be ordered for upcoming projects, how long an order is scheduled to run, and requirements for packaging parts.
If you’re reading this, I’d like to encourage you to join me and the team here. What differentiates working in a manufacturing atmosphere like Accumold from the rest of the competition? Spanning three buildings, our climate-controlled facility places heavy emphasis on cleanliness. Doing our part to go green and be environmentally conscious, we have a nationally recognized, internally controlled recycling program.
Higher learning is present through on-the-job training, certifications, and scholarships. Through our Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) program, team members are encouraged to propose ideas to improve everyday activities. For example, my proposal was accepted, resulting in cost savings while providing a positive influence on the environment. The achievement also earned me recognition as a quarterly process winner.
Team members make you feel welcome and are willing to help each other out. The people I’ve worked with are genuinely passionate about what they do and contribute to a winning “can do” culture. We are kept in the loop regarding company and industry-wide matters through regularly scheduled meetings with topics ranging from departmental and project status updates to market trends and expectations.
At Accumold, I have a career that challenges my intellect. I’m passionate about making a difference, changing the world for the better, and doing something with a purpose. With so many moving pieces, no two days in this position are ever alike, which makes it feel less like a job and more like a self-fulfilling, educational thrill ride. Join me.
