The medical industry is under intense pressure to discover solutions and innovate. Engineers at leading medical device companies are feeling the pressure and they are turning to events like CompaMed In D\u00fcsseldorf to find answers to complicated manufacturing challenges.\u00a0This International Trade Fair happens annually inD\u00fcsseldorf Germany, and it’s laser focused on medical device technology and manufacturing.<\/p>\n

“Providers are turning to suppliers to seek ever more delicate, lighter and at the same time more advanced components such as sensors, chips, wireless modules and even accompanying energy savers or information savers.” says\u00a0Horst Giesen<\/a>, Global Portfolio Director Health & Medical Technologies of Messe D\u00fcsseldorf GmbH.<\/p>\n

Miniaturization seems to be a theme and expectation of this years attendees, an area we are particularly good at. But Giesen takes it a step further, highlighting durability at these microscopic levels and also pointing to the need for “lab on a chip” technologies, and quite possibly their potential use in replacing specialist physicians.<\/p>\n

“Ideally, this can be used in future to locate disease indicators in the bloodstream at the patient\u2019s home.” Giesen said. Indicating physicians can turn their focus away form highly niche specialties and focus on bigger holistic issues. “All that is required is a disposable fluorescence chip and a smartphone. A drop of blood applied to the chip will then be sufficient to receive a diagnosis via app within minutes.”<\/p>\n

Because MedTech is solving some ground breaking issues and faces challenges like never before, CompaMed has expanded the demonstration floor this year, bringing more enabling technologies and manufacturers to the worlds best engineers and designers. Just as Giesen has indicated, not a day goes by where we aren’t brought in on complicated medical projects that demand smaller, lighter and more complicated sensors or components, so we are more than ready to be a sounding board and answer difficult questions about micro molding and microscopic manufacturing.<\/p>\n
