What opportunities in the medical device industry are OEMs ignoring and why?<\/h3>\n

Sven G\u00e1bor J\u00e1nszky: The whole healthcare industry is ignoring the use of real-time data in the hands of the customers. This is strange because real-time data measurement already exists in many uses, like cars and machines, but not for the most important thing on earth: the human body.<\/p>\n

Looking at other industries, we can learn how business models will be changed when we have real-time data in the hands of people. Patients turn into customers in the center of a healthcare network. Players in this network won\u2019t only be today’s OEMs, doctors, and insurance companies, but also mobile device manufacturers and software companies, AI and genetic specialists, and most importantly: the food industry.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What medical routines, common today, will be obsolete by 2030?<\/h3>\n

Sven G\u00e1bor J\u00e1nszky: The most common routine today is to strive for methods to cure people. By 2030, this will be replaced by the mindset of preventing people from illness and damage. The digital technology behind this transformation is already seen in many industries via three core principles:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Digitalization makes everything measurable in real-time, also emotions, brainwaves, bacteria mixes in the gut and other things we thought were unmeasurable in the past.<\/li>\n
  2. Everything you can measure, you can predict.<\/li>\n
  3. Everything you can predict, you can optimize.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Using digital technologies based on real-time data, people will be less ill. But what happens, if health AI on your mobile predicts you to be 23% ill by tonight? What will you do?<\/p>\n

    Patients will ask AI for advice, and will likely be told to mix a certain bacteria cocktail in their food, followed by a specified amount of vitamins. These patients could go to their 3D food printer in the kitchen, connect their device, and let it print exactly the yogurt they need in that moment. Individually and situationally! The term for is “adaptive!” In our future studies on healthcare, we describe PREDICTIVE MEDICINE and ADAPTIVE PRODUCTS by 2030.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    What are failures that will continue to plague OEMs now and in the future?<\/h3>\n

    Sven G\u00e1bor J\u00e1nszky: For me, as futurist and future strategy consultant the biggest failure of healthcare OEMs will be to think that their industry is highly regulated, they are secured by regulation, or that no other players can enter the game or change the rules. We know from all other industries that this is a fallacy.<\/p>\n

    Instead, OEMs will have to follow fast, or drive this innovation. But the main question for decision makers in the industry is WHEN? What is the tipping point? What is the point of no return when game-changers will rapidly enter the mass market? The answer is easy: This tipping point is when customers get real-time data from their body on mobile and can use it for optimizing their daily behavior.<\/p>\n

    Will routine screenings and physicals to be unnecessary and replaced by wearables or other non-invasive tech?<\/h3>\n

    Absolutely! They will be replaced by sensors and technologies from wearables and on-skin-sensors via swallowable micro cameras and nanorobots in the blood. Also, smart toothbrushes and intelligent toilet bowls.<\/p>\n
